CYAN is looking for new board members. We are a non-profit organization with the mission to strengthen Canmore by connecting young adults (18-35) with each other and local resources while empowering young adult voices.
These positions would be on a volunteer basis. If you are looking to build connection, help strengthen our community and have fun while doing it all please reach out to apply to any of these positions. No previous experience needed!

Vice Chair

Time Commitment

  • 10-15 hours a month

Term of Office

  • 6 months with possibility of extension

Duties and Responsibilities

The vice chair is, first and foremost, responsible for the effective functioning of the Board in its role of governing CYAN.

  • Support the Chair in the decision making and managing the functioning of the CYAN Board
  • Assist the Chair in supervising and evaluating staff
  • Ensuring Truth and Reconciliation efforts, non-discrimination, and environmentalism considerations are taken into board decision making
  • Support board members and board role evaluations
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and onboarding of new board members

Qualifications

  • Ability and experience to lead and work within a team environment
  • Passion for equity and ability to bring a social and intergenerational equity lens to decision making
  • An ability to commit the time required to fulfill the responsibilities described

Treasurer

Time Commitment

  • 8-12 hours a month

Term of Office

  • Initial 6 month with possibility of extension

Duties and Responsibilities

The treasurer will offer guidance to the Executive Director and financial officer in ensuring good fiscal planning, decision-making and oversight at a governance level.    

  • Assist staff in the preparation of the annual budget and its presentation to the board for review
  • Ensure that the appropriate monthly or quarterly financial statements are reviewed by the board
  • Ensure that the board regularly monitors the organization’s financial performance and alerts it to any important discrepancies between planned and actual figures
  • Ensure that the staff maintains the appropriate financial records and that these are accurate and up-to-date
  • Serve as a co-signer of cheques with at least one another signing officer
  • Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of funders
  • Final review of grants
  • Helps, along with the Executive Director, keep the board informed of important financial events, trends, and issues relevant to the organization

Qualifications

The treasurer ought to have:

  • A commitment to, and a clear understanding of the mission of the organization
  • Proficient in microsoft word and excel
  • Ability to quickly learn and absorb new information, initiative taker and open to learning new skills in the roll
  • An ability to commit the time required to fulfill the responsibilities described

Asset:

  • An understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices



VP Fundraising

Time Commitment

  • 8-12 hours

Term of Office

  • 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Find new sources of revenue
  • Secure donation and sponsorship commitments by developing and managing a portfolio of prospects and supporters through proactive contact and stewardship.
  • Identify and develop new sponsorship and fundraising opportunities,
  • Track the status of funds raised, in addition to maintaining contact with supporters
  • Track and document sponsorship documents and year end reports to give to supporters  
  • Regularly review and adapt development activities to ensure fundraising targets are met. Develop strategies to ensure sustainability and growth of revenue.

Qualifications

  • Outcome driven, with the ability to keep the big picture in mind while staying grounded in the work required to achieve it
  • Practical and focused on tangible results and outcomes and can balance the many moving pieces of the organization
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to develop a sponsorship package tailored to a particular corporation or individuals wants and needs
  • Strong Relationship Building Skills, including maintenance and stewarding existing relationships
